Why Kuwait?
At the heart of it, we believe every animal deserves a safe, loving home. Where they’re born shouldn’t determine their chances at survival or the kind of life they get to live.

In Kuwait, there is a large population of stray and abandoned animals, and very limited rescue resources compared to the need. Many dogs and cats are left without consistent access to food, medical care, or shelter, and the reality is that options for them locally are often extremely limited.

Our team in Kuwait steps in to rescue animals from difficult and sometimes dangerous situations, providing medical care, stability, and a chance to recover. From there, we’re able to connect them with a network of fosters and adopters in the United States, where there are more opportunities for them to find permanent, loving homes.

It’s about bridging that gap. Giving animals who might not have had a chance, one. Because at the end of the day, every animal deserves more than just survival. They deserve to feel safe, cared for, and at home.

Why are there so many stray and abandoned dogs in Kuwait?

Unlike here in the United States, Kuwait does not have local, private, or government-run shelter systems. Many dogs are left to survive on the streets or in the desert, where they are subjected to brutal weather conditions, including summer temperatures reaching 110 - 115 degrees. Without rescue intervention, these animals often face starvation, injury, disease, and extreme heat exposure.

How does the rescue process work?
Our team in Kuwait rescues animals from unsafe conditions and brings them into care. They receive veterinary treatment, are vaccinated, and begin the process of healing and socialization.

Once they are healthy and cleared for travel, we coordinate their journey to the United States through flight volunteers and the CDC. From there, our foster network welcomes them into homes where they continue to decompress and prepare for adoption.

Are the animals healthy when they arrive?

All animals receive veterinary care before traveling, including vaccinations and any necessary treatment. They must be cleared through the CDC quarantine facility before they are released to us. Many have come from difficult conditions, so while they arrive stable, some may still need continued care, patience, and time to fully adjust in a home environment.

What does fostering actually involve?
Fostering means opening your home to a dog or cat temporarily while they wait for their forever family. You provide a safe, stable environment, help them learn a routine, and give them the chance to adjust to life in a home.

You also help us learn their personality, which makes it much easier to match them with the right adopter.

Do fosters cover any costs?
We cover major expenses like veterinary care and often provide supplies when available. Fosters provide the home, day-to-day care, and love. We work together as a team to make it manageable.

How long do animals stay in foster care?

It depends on the animal. Some are adopted quickly, while others need a little more time to adjust and find the right fit. Our goal is always to place them in the right home, not just the fastest one.

Can I adopt my foster?

Yes, and it happens often. If you feel like your foster is the right fit for your home, we’ll guide you through the adoption process.

Can I choose what kind of animal I foster?

We do our best to match you with an animal that fits your home, lifestyle, and experience level. Whether you prefer dogs, cats, puppies, or a more laid-back companion, we’ll work with you.

Why do you use fosters instead of a shelter?

Foster homes allow animals to decompress, feel safe, and adjust to real home life. It also helps us better understand their personalities, which leads to more successful, long-term adoptions.

Why are your adoption fees so high when I can get a dog here for free?

Adoption fees for our rescues from Kuwait are often much higher than what people may be used to locally, but those fees reflect the enormous effort and expense involved in getting each animal to safety. Before a dog can even travel, they require extensive veterinary care in Kuwait, including vaccinations, bloodwork, microchipping, spay/neuter procedures, health certificates, and preparation for international travel requirements.

From there, the cost of transport is significant. International flights, airline-approved crates, cargo fees, CDC quarantine facility clearance, and travel coordination all add up quickly. In many cases, the true cost to rescue and transport a single dog is far greater than the adoption fee itself.

At the end of the day, rescue groups like BFG still depend heavily on donations, fosters, and volunteers to help cover the remaining costs for each pet. Every adoption fee helps offset a portion of the rescue process, but community support is what truly makes it possible for these dogs to safely make their way from survival to a loving home.
